Asbury Park, NJ - The Jersey Blues cross country team took to the streets of Asbury Park in the annual Santa Fun Run to help raise money for the local charity, Lunch Break, located in Red Bank, NJ.
As the team crossed the finish line in their Santa suits, our very own assistant cross country coach, Dennis Flynn, won his age group, as head coach, Mike Tursi came in 3rd for his age group. Freshman, Liam Broadhurst (Middletown North High School) placed ninth overall, and freshman Malea McMurray (Keansburg High School) ran her best time ever. In addition, the team was featured on News Channel 12 evening news chanting, "Ho Ho Ho!"
"Asbury Park Santa Run is a 5K fun run in support of local charity, Lunch Break. All runners will be given a Santa suit at registration to run a closed course on the streets of Asbury Park. A portion of the proceeds from the race will go directly to the charity in addition to all funds raised by runners. There will also be a toy drive for runners to donate gifts to local children in need during the holidays."
"As a caring community, Lunch Break freely provides food, clothing, life skills and fellowship to those in need in Monmouth County and beyond. We strive to break the cycle of poverty for those we serve and guide our community members in need to self-sufficiency and healthier, more productive lifestyles. We serve everyone with compassion and dignity."
