Cranford, NJ - The Jersey Blues women's volleyball team opened the 2019 season with a five-set thriller against Union County College. Brookdale overcame the Owls defense and notched the 3-2 (20-25, 25-18, 25-19, 24-26, 15-10) victory.
After falling in the first set, the Blues rebounded and overpowered the Owls in the next two sets. The fourth frame was a battle for every point and Union was able to close it out. But in the fifth deciding set, sophomore outside hitter Katie O'Neill had an aggressive six run serve, followed by freshman defensive specialist Teizlin Larrua, who was steady and errorless from the serve line. Sophomore middle hitter Melanie Hobbis closed out the match with a single block to take the win.
The team will return home to take on the Lions of Raritan Valley Community College on Thursday, September 12th at 7pm.
