Lincroft, NJ - The heat was brutal and the Jersey Blues women's soccer team turned up the temperature even more in their 3-1 home opening win against the Lehigh Carbon Community College Cougars.
The Cougars scored within the first 10 minutes of play, but the Blues quickly got their bearings and pumped in a goal at the 22:50 mark off of a pass from sophomore midfielder, Gabrielle Hueth, to freshman fellow midfielder, Hailey Funkhouser. About 14 minutes later, freshman midfielder, Marissa Fiordaliso, assisted sophomore midfielder, Grace Broderick, for goal number two. At the 76:10 mark, Broderick struck again with a feed off of the foot of freshman defender, Jordyn Gavini, to seal the win.
"Despite the heat and exhaustion, the team played really well. They spread the field and played to feet well," said Head Coach Nil Onder.
Brookdale will be home for their next game against the Middlesex College Blue Colts on Thursday, September 7th, at 4:00pm.
