Lincroft, NJ- Coming off a historic 2013 season where the squad won the program's first-ever National title, the 2014 Brookdale Community College women's soccer team looks to pick up right where it left off. Returning seven players from its National champion team, head coach Katie Miller has added an extremely talented incoming freshman class to start this season in defense of its National title.
Headlining the returners, Caroline Duerr was the team's second-most productive offensive player – logging 50 points (20 goals, 10 assists) for the Blues. Her productivity was rewarded with first-team All-Region and All-GSAC honors. Joining Duerr up top is sophomore Brooke Tartis. Tartis, a veteran of all 19 games, scored seven goals and assisted on 12 more.
Along with Duerr and Tartis, Amanda Anastasia tasted offensive success last year as she scored the game-winning goal of the National championship game against Mohawk Valley. Rounding out the returning midfielders are Meghan Begley, who assisted five goals in 17 games, Raquel Rodriguez, who tallied one assist, and Nicole Rodriguez, who scored two goals and assisted one.
Ali Maddock will lead a young defensive corp, as she is the only returner from a backfield that held a .57 goals against average, good for second best in the Nation.
"We are very excited to get this season started," commented Coach Miller, who is the reigning NJCAA and NSCAA National Coach of the Year. "Our sophomores lead by example and will make the incoming freshman really step up. The team is off to a great start and I am eager to see what this season brings."
The team begins its quest on Brookdale's home field on Thursday, September 4th against Burlington County College. The full schedule can be found here: http://brookdaleathletics.com/sports/wsoc/2014-15/schedule.
