Dryden, NY- En route to its first national title, Brookdale defeats Mohawk Valley 4-3. Brookdale took an early 1-0 lead with a goal from Freshman Forward Caroline Duerr (Manasquan, NJ: Manasquan High School) assisted by Sophomore Center Midfielder Chelsea James (Howell, NJ: Howell High School). Brookdale's Freshman Midfielder Brooke Tartis, (Neptune, NJ: Neptune High School) added a second goal in the first half making it 2-0 Brookdale off of an assist from Sophomore Midfielder Kathleen Flannigan (West Long Branch, NJ: Shore Regional High School).
Mohawk Valley answered back with one goal of their own in the first half to make it 2-1 in favor of Brookdale. In the second half, Brookdale used the wind to their advantage when Sophomore Forward Alexa Masino (Howell, NJ: Howell High School) drilled a 25 yard shot, scoring the third goal, assisted by Duerr to make the score 3-1. Mohawk Valley scored two quick goals late in the second half to tie it up 3-3.
With 5:22 remaining in the game, Sophomore Center Midfielder Keara Homan (Manasquan, NJ: Manasquan High School) beautifully placed a corner kick on the head of Freshman Midfielder Amanda Anastasia (Middletown, NJ: Middletown High School South) to score the 4th and final goal of the game, clinching the tittle for the Jersey Blues.
