Softball Advances To Region XIX Finals After Defeating Middlesex In Two

Lincroft, NJ- The Jersey Blues softball team defeated the Blue Colts of Middlesex County College in two games to advance to the finals of the Region XIX tournament.

In game one, Brookdale overwhelmed Middlesex, 13-5 in just five innings. Sophomore outfielder Taylor Sheridan posted one double and one RBI while freshman first baseman Bethany Evans recorded one double and two RBI's. Freshman outfielder Taylor Mennie knocked in three runs, hit one double and stole one base.

Sophomore center-fielder Amanda Pringle drove in three runs and collected one stolen base while sophomore second baseman Cassie Varvaro added one stolen base and one RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Victoria Vogt tossed for the win. Vogt faced 25 batters, earned four strikeouts and allowed eight hits.

The Blues took game two away from the Blue Colts, 5-1. Evans remained a threat at the plate and crushed a three-run homer. Freshman utility Megan Mego contributed one double and one RBI.

Freshman outfielder Michelle Montefinese, Sheridan and Pringle all recorded stolen bases during the seven inning match-up.

From the mound, freshman pitcher Lauren Coppinger spun for the win. Coppinger faced 30 batters and collected six strikeouts.

The team returns to action on the road on Sunday, May 8th against the Roadrunners of Rowan College at Gloucester for the Region XIX finals.
