Carney's Point, NJ - The Jersey Blues men's soccer team chopped down the Salem Community College Mighty Oaks with a 1-0 win in Region 19 play for the last game of the regular season. Both teams entered the game with seven wins and six losses, so it was a good win for Brookdale as they push into post season.
The Jersey Blues had seven shots on goal until the 50th minute when freshman defender Jose Rincon sent the ball into the net off the foot of sophomore forward Augusto Bomtempo (Long Branch High School). The goal marked the first of his career for the Long Branch native, and fellow Long Branch sophomore goalie, Matti Tenhunen, gathered three saves in the win.
Brookdale finishes with a 4-4-1 Region 19 record, and an 8-6-2 overall record as they await their position for the region playoffs.
