Men's Soccer Tops Region Contender RCSJ - Gloucester

Sewell, NJ - The Jersey Blues had their first region battle of the season against the always challenging, RCSJ - Gloucester Roadrunners. Brookdale outlasted the Roadrunners in a 2-1 win.

The Blues grabbed and held possesion early in the game, but there was not much action on either side. With about 19 minutes left in the first half, sophomore forward, Ryan Gannon, broke the deadlock on a solo run, beating two defenders, then cranked a rocket into the back of the net to give Brookdale a 1-0 lead. Not until 25 minutes left in the game did the Roadrunners come alive as their sophomore defender, Connor Buechele, sliced through two Jersey Blue defenders with grace and power, placing the ball in the corner of the net to even the score, 1-1. 

The Blues quickly recovered and gained some energy on the field from the fast-footed freshman midfielder, Kaan Pehlivan, who immediately drew a penalty from the Roadrunners. A penalty kick was in order and sophomore midfielder, Liam Mulvey, stepped up and delivered the game-ending goal for the Blues, andmtheir first region win of the season.

Brookdale (2-2-1) heads back home to play the Drew University (JV) Rangers on Monday, September 19th, at 3:30pm.
