Blues Fall To Middlesex Blue Colts In Season Opener

Edison, NJ - In their season opener, the Brookdale men's soccer team stepped onto the field starting nine freshmen. Despite 10 shots and five corner kicks, the Blues were unable to find the back of the net at Middlesex County College, losing 3-0.

Freshman forward Ryan Gannon had a stellar performance on defense winning one on one battles and starting the counterattack with his precise passing. The Blue Colts struck in the first half, scoring on a laser direct kick. Middlesex then capped off the scoring with a penalty kick and a Brookdale own goal during the second half of play.

Other standout performers include, freshman defenders Jared Sheridan and Joseph Petzold, Jr., as well as freshman goalkeeper, Reynaldo Moreno-Flores.  In a statement post game, coach Rafferty stated, "I am very happy with the team's performance despite the score line. We are a young team this year and are here to grow together. We did just that today. Middlesex is a very good team and will be a formidable opponent throughout the season."

The Jersey Blues will host the Camden County College Cougars on Friday, April 16th, 2:30pm, @ Capelli Sports Complex in Tinton Falls, NJ.
