Manalapan, NJ - The Brookdale men's soccer team came out strong against the Lions of Raritan Valley Community College but fell short in overtime, 3-2.
The Blues hit the crossbar in the 10th minute of play and continued to rip shots as the Lions defense managed to clear three balls off the goal line in a great defensive effort. The score remained tied at 0-0 after the first half.
After going down by two goals in the second half, the team picked up their intensity and freshman midfielder Dane Calhoun buried a rebound off of sophomore forward Hadi Raoofi's initial 30 yard blast. Raoofi continued to produce up top and notched the tying goal with eight minutes remaining in the game off a low cross from freshman midfielder Gabriel Vieira. Raritan Valley found the net first in overtime, handing the Blues a home opener loss.
The team will return to action on the road at Rowan College at Burlington County on Thursday, September 5th at 3pm.
