Baseball Takes 2-0 Lead In Middlesex Series

Lincroft, NJ - Brookdale baseball swept the Middlesex College Blue Colts in the first two games of their series, 22-9, 19-1 in baseball action this past weekend.

In game-one, undefeated freshman stud pitcher, Jake Burt, captured his seventh win as he threw for 4.1 innings, with four strikeouts and allowed just two earned runs. Sophomore first baseman, Ryan Cole (.481 batting avg.) hit two doubles for five RBI's in his 3-for-4 at bats. Matching Cole's 3-for-4 at the plate was center fielder, Devon Smith, with a triple and three RBI's, and second baseman, Nick Colbert, with a double and three RBI's as well. Sophomore right fielder, Nick LoVarco, built on two more RBI's and a double to clinch the win.

The Blues produced 10 big runs in the second inning which was led by LoVarco and his three-run homer, followed by freshman catcher, Shane Andrus, posting a triple and a double for three RBI's. The two RBI hitters came from sophomore shortstop, Hunter Serrano, who hit 3-for-3 with two doubles, freshman, Kensil Flores, with a triple, and freshman first baseman, Giovanni Sive, who batted 2-for-5. For the win on the mound was sophomore, Ryan Cole (6-1), who threw for 4.1 innings, zero earned runs, and six strikeouts.

The Jersey Blues (29-4-1) will finish the series at Middlesex College on Monday, April 15th, at 3:30pm.
