Lincroft, NJ - Brookdale baseball had a big day in conference play with a two-game sweep against the Mighty Oaks of Salem Community College, 8-6, and 15-3.
The double-header got off to a slow start as the Blues were in a 5-0 run deficit in the top of the 3rd inning. Brookdale then rallied with four runs that inning and never looked back, scoring two in the 4th and 6th innings for the win. Sophomore pitcher, Nick Timpanelli (3-0), got the win as he threw the heat with mustard in his six innings on the mound; striking out nine and zero earned runs.
Sophomore catcher, Darius Troche, went 2-4, including a huge double to pull home three RBI's. Sophomore center fielder, Christian Bauman, also hit 2-4 with a timely triple for an RBI, and sophomore left fielder, Marcus Johnson, upped his batting average to .476, batting 3-3 including an RBI double.
The game two 15-3 win was a slug fest. Christian Bauman hit for the cycle with his 4-5 at bats to bring home three RBI's. Homeruns were also hit by Marcus Johnson for three RBI's, and freshman third baseman, Nick Colbert, his first as a Jersey Blue, for three RBI's. In addition, 2nd baseman, Caleb Carter, pulled in three runs including a triple.
Nationally recognized sophomore pitcher, Brendan Williams (4-0), was brilliant on the mound as he struck out 12 Mighty Oaks, allowing one hit, and zero earned runs.
The Jersey Blues(16-3) travel to Toms River, NJ, to begin their 3-game series against the Ocean County College Vikings on Tuesday, March 28th, at 3:00pm.
