Lincroft, NJ- The 2006 and 2007 Brookdale baseball seasons featured First Team All-Region and Conference second baseman / shortstop Paddy Matera. He was a two time First Team All World Series player for division II and III in back to back World Series. In 2007, he was voted MVP of the Region XIX Baseball Tournament.
After Brookdale, Matera went on to play for the Newark Bears and Camden Riversharks. He was picked up by the Cleveland Indians where he has played for the last two years while progressing to the AA ball.
In spring training of this year, Matera was hitting over 500 and was called up to play in the big league game vs the Reds.
"Paddy will go down as one of the toughest and hardest working players that ever played at Brookdale Community College", said Head Coach Johnny Johnson. "His work ethic and desire to win sets him apart from the other great players who have worn a Brookdale Uniform. He led us to back to back World Series appearances in DII & DIII. He represents what Brookdale baseball is all about. Paddy is my favorite player that I have ever coached. He respects the game and utilizes his God given talents to the max. He is the reason I still enjoy coaching".
