Bio

Thomas "Bo” Scannapieco enters his 32nd year as Head Coach of the Brookdale Community College softball program.  Scannapieco has experienced every facet of the athletic department, from being a student-athlete himself, to assistant coaching, to coordinator of intramurals and recreation and head coach for the softball team.

One of the most enthusiastic and successful coaches to ever grace the Brookdale Community College athletic department; head coach Bo Scannapieco’s accomplishments are much more far reaching than the softball diamond.

As a Brookdale alumni himself, Scannapieco’s record-breaking career began in 1973.  As a sophomore on the Brookdale Jersey Blues baseball team, he recorded the first hit ever batted on MacLaughlin Field.   Upon graduation from Brookdale in 1976 and Trenton State in 1977, Scannapieco joined the Brookdale athletic department as intramural coordinator.  Still to this day, his intramural and recreation program attracts hundreds of students each semester.

After a brief stint as an assistant baseball coach, the unflappable coach switched sides to try softball in 1986 and has never looked back.  Under Scannapieco’s tutelage, his squads have brought home three National Championships to Lincroft and have championed 15 Region XIX titles. The softball team has won over 1,000 games during his tenure (which is still active – by the way).  Those 1,000-plus victories are the highest win total in the history of NJCAA Division III softball. In fact, for his immense success, he was inducted to the NJCAA Hall of Fame in 2007– quite a feat for one still active in the field.

His work is not done strictly on the diamond; however.  Scannapieco works tirelessly to develop the entire student-athlete – emphasis on student.  He is a stickler for academic progress and has garnered more Academic All-Americans than any other coach in the Region.  Scannapieco truly believes that success does not just stop at Brookdale.  He ensures all of his players continue to the next level: whether it is earning a scholarship to a four-year institution; or continuing their education without the game.  Even more, many of his former players have gone on to become successful coaches themselves, a tribute to his leadership, mentorship and guidance during their undergraduate years.

In Spring of 2012, Scannapieco was recipient of the coveted Barringer Award, given by the Brookdale Alumni Association for his professional contributions to Brookdale Community College.

Scannapieco resides in Jackson, NJ with his wife, Denise and daughter, Deena, who is a Brookdale graduate.
