Mennie and Eckert Blast Grand Slams Against Orange County Community College
Lincroft, NJ- Sophomore left-fielder Taylor Mennie and freshman second baseman Paige Eckert each blasted a grand slam in the doubleheader against Orange County Community College. Lincroft, NJ- Sophomore left-fielder Taylor Mennie and freshman second baseman Paige Eckert each blasted a grand slam in the doubleheader against Orange County Community College. The Brookdale coaching staff and student-athletes worked hard before the game in order to get the field in shape to play.
In game one, the Jersey Blues came back from a 1-0 deficit and had an inning in the bottom of the third to take the lead and win the game, 11-1. Mennie knocked in five RBI's as sophomore right-handed pitcher Lauren Coppinger spun for the victory.
In game two, Brookdale overwhelmed the Colts, 17-1. Sophomore catcher Olivia Carbone ripped a three-run homer while sophomore pitcher Danelle Lewis and freshman catcher Bridget Coulahan crushed back to back home-runs.
Freshman pitcher Rachel Hrevnak and Lewis combined for the no-hitter with Hrevnak notching the win.
The team slides to an overall record of 14-5-1 and will return to action on Saturday, April 8th at home to face the Spartans of Northampton Community College for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
