Newton, NJ - The Jersey Blues men's soccer team tied the countries #9 ranked Sussex Skylanders on the road with a final 1-1 score. The Blues started the game strong as they pressed the Skylanders all over the field, and within 15 minutes on the clock, the tight pressure paid off for the Blues.
Freshman midfielder, Enir Radoncic (Matawan High School), won a ball in the middle of the park who then slid a silky ball through the defense to put freshman forward, Liam Stewart, on a breakaway. Stewart had his first touch into the Skylanders box, but he was taken down for a penalty. Stewart converted the penalty to give the Blues a 1-0 lead. Sussex immediately put on the pressure, but the Blues went into the half with the advantageous lead.
In the 2nd half, the Skylanders pushed and scored the equalizer goal in the 61st minute. After the score was knotted up and pushed to overtime, the game became a Region 19 instant classic. The teams were battling back and fourth; each with opportunities to score on both ends. The game finally ended, 1-1, supplying the Blues with a 1-0-1 current record.
