Coach John Macchio came to Brookdale Community College in 1999 where he became a four time Region Champion, a two time National Champion, and a two time All American. He began his tennis career at Middletown High School North where he played 1st singles in 1996. John's Brookdale tennis career was from 2000-2001, and within his first season, he helped lead his team to win the regions and qualify for the Nationals. He won the District 19 Regionals in both singles and doubles and went on to win the National Championship at sixth singles. He was the first ever National Champion for any sport in Brookdale Community College’s history.

In his 2001 season, John was named Team Captain and again, assisted his team back to win the regions and qualify for Nationals. John mirrored his first year as District 19 Champion in both singles and doubles, then earned another National Championship victory at 4th singles and became the first ever back to back National Champion at Brookdale. 

John remained at Brookdale where he supervised the Jersey Blues summer tennis camp from 2001- 2018. During these years, he was hired to be the assistant coach at Brookdale alongside his long time mentor and coach, Richard Karpinski (Coach K), in 2003. John has been an integral part of the successful Brookdale tennis program and has coached numerous regional and national champions.

In his first full season as Co-Head Coach in 2017, John coached Brookdale to its first undefeated season and Regional Championship since 2005. The team produced four National Champions and took second place overall finish as a team.
