Branchburg, NJ - The Brookdale Community College men's soccer team battled against the Raritan Valley Community College Golden Lions that ultimately ended in a 3-2 loss.
Brookdale opened the scoring in the 16th minute when freshman midfielder, Jorgeluis Pintado, netted his first of the season. Freshman defender, Declan Smith, delivered a ball over the top, finding freshman midfielder, Jorge Cruz, who nodded it forward to spring Pintado on a breakaway. From the left side, he slotted it into the far post corner for the 1-0 lead.
Just two minutes later, a misplay along the Raritan Valley backline gifted freshman forward, Peter DeSantis, the ball at his feet. With composure, he took a touch and finished into the lower-left corner to double the advantage.
Raritan Valley responded almost immediately, down the left wing and sending a cross into the box for a first-time finish at the near post to cut the deficit to 2-1.
In the 55th minute, Raritan equalized after capitalizing on an outside turnover and converting a cross with a one-time finish inside the front of the goal. Just three minutes later, they added the go-ahead goal from distance, curling a shot into the far post corner to make it 3-2.
Brookdale pressed for the equalizer late, hitting the post and forcing key saves from the Raritan keeper in the final minute, but the comeback fell just short.
The Jersey Blues (2-2) will host their next game against Atlantic Cape Community College Buccaneers on Tuesday, September 16th at 4:00pm.
