Clark, NJ - The Brookdale men's soccer team secured a hard-fought 3-2 road victory over the Union College Owls in a night conference match-up.
Early in the first half, sophomore midfielder, Alessandro Principato, chipped a ball over the backline, finding freshman defender, Billy Murawski, who controlled it and laid it off to freshman forward, Peter DeSantis. DeSantis finished cleanly inside the 18-yard box to give Brookdale the lead.
Union equalized just before halftime after a questionable foul call just outside the box.
Brookdale wasted no time responding—just 25 seconds into the second half, freshman midfielder, Jorge Cruz, headed the ball behind the defense to sophomore midfielder, Wyatt Vicente, who calmly slotted it into the lower right corner to restore the lead.
In the 67th minute, freshman defender, Zion Tomlinson, delivered a moment of brilliance. From 25 yards out on a direct free kick, he struck a ball that dipped over the wall and into the top near corner—a goal that could be a "Goal of the Year" candidate and worthy of SportsCenter's Top 10.
Union pulled one back in the final seconds off a deflected corner kick, but Brookdale held on to seal the 3-2 win.
Brookdale (2-1) will be on the road for their next game against the Raritan Valley Community College Lions on Saturday, September 13th, at 12:00pm.
