Branchburg Twp., NJ - Brookdale men's soccer suffered their third defeat to the Lions at Raritan Valley Community College, 5-1. The Blues went down a goal in the first minute of the game off of a corner kick, then the Lions scored again late in the half.
Goalkeeper Bryan Viegas had all his angles right, but the Lion's winger lofted the ball over the keeper, scoring what can only be described as a, "cheeky" goal. Brookdale got on the scoreboard in the second half after sophomore, Dane Calhoun was fouled and took the free kick himself. Calhoun punched a cannon to the far right net which the keeper saved, but then rebounded to freshman, Ryan Gannon, who drilled the loose ball home, pulling the Blues within one.
Playing without substitutes and on weary legs, Brookdale gave way to three goals in the latter stages of the game. Stellar performances were provided by both Gannon and Joseph Petzold, Jr.
Next on the schedule for the Jersey Blues is a trip down south to visit with the Salem Community College Mighty Oaks on Wednesday, April 21st @ 3:30pm.
