Brookdale Head Coach Paul Cisek Notches 500th Career Win At Brookdale
Nine games into his 26th season as head coach of the Jersey Blues, head coach Paul Cisek won his 500th game at Brookdale with a convincing 107-71 victory against Atlantic Cape CC.
Head Coach Paul Cisek took over the Brookdale Jersey Blues men's basketball program beginning in the 1992-1993 season. During that season he only managed 8 wins versus 18 losses. Twenty six seasons later he has turned Brookdale in to a nationally respectful and dominate program. Cisek said he never imagined being the Head Coach at Brookdale for 26 years, let alone reaching 500 wins. "In my interview when I was first hired, I remember Bob Walsack (the athletic director at that time) telling me he needs me to stick around for at least 3 years....because he was tired of hiring a new coach every year." Cisek has definitely kept up his end of the bargain a looks forward to many more season as long as he continues to enjoy it and can make an impact on his student athletes live.
Cisek has coached national players of the year, all americans, all region and conference players through out his career, but nothing is more important then moving his student athletes on to 4 year programs while have an impact on the student athletes he has coached. Cisek guided the 2013 team to his first ever national championship with a 33-1 record that season. He is the longest tenured coach in Region XIX, which is made up of 32 colleges and maintains an impressive .680 win percentage over his 26 seasons. He has been named National Coach on the Year in 2013 and Region Coach of the Year five times. Cisek has had thirteen 20 plus win seasons and two 30 win seasons, while making five national tournament appearances, winning 5 region titles, and 9 conference championships.
Prior to his coaching career at Brookdale Cisek was a graduate assistant coach at Wagner College in 1988-1989 and with the Monmouth College for the 1987-88 season. Before Monmouth, Cisek coached three years, 1984-1987 at Paul Smith's Junior College in Paul Smith, N.Y., compiling a 62-24 record, where he also served as Director of Student Activities. He was named Mid-East Region III Coach of the Year in 1986-87. Cisek also served as an assistant coach at Potsdam State University and Oswego State. Cisek graduated from the State University of New York at Oswego. A native of Amsterdam, N.Y., Cisek was a talented baseball player and played in a premier summer league run by the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Brookdale athletic department will honor Coach Cisek prior to the teams home game on Tuesday, December 12 at 7:00 pm vs CC Morris.
