The following article is Katrina's, "Souls of Brookdale," feature story:
This is Katrina's story… "Hello! My name is Katrina Hand. Brookdale was the perfect fit for me academically and athletically. I originally came to Brookdale because of the NJSTARS program to save money, but there were so many other opportunities that Brookdale had to offer. I was able to be a part of the Honors Program as well as the volleyball and softball teams. Choosing community college was so important because it allowed me to save money, get an Associate's Degree, and take classes that would eventually transfer to a four-year school. The Honors Program was a great way to take more challenging courses and study with a small cohort.
In addition to great academics, the athletics side of Brookdale really made a difference in my life. Being able to play volleyball and softball for two years allowed me to meet some amazing people, and also prepared me to play both sports at the Division II level. The players, coaches, and athletics department really make me feel at home. As an alum, I am currently working on air quality projects for the State of New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. I will be graduating from Florida Tech in December with a Bachelor's in Meteorology and I will be assistant coaching Brookdale's Volleyball Team. I am so glad I get to come back and I hope that the new student-athletes will enjoy their time here as much as I have." #SoulsOfBrookdale
