Brookdale Women's Tennis Comes Back!
October 1st, a warm afternoon in Ocean County, Brookdale women's tennis came back for a second visit. This time, again with only five, the team rallies from the initial deficit of two defaults to defeat Ocean 5 to 4.
Both doubles teams won. First team Tony Kauffman and Brianna McCarthy steam rolled 6-0, 6-2 to match last month's win. Second team Grace Meyer and Farida Moamen were down in the set 5-2 and came back to win in a tie break!
Krysta Cieslik meanwhile was giving her fifth singles opponent a good run, but lost 0-1. The team was down 3-2 and needed three singles wins.
Tony Kauffman played her best tennis of the season and beat a seasoned hitter 0-2. Brianna McCarthy, down a set, came back with fierce consistency to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Meanwhile the western sky was a turning rose color, and Farida, in her second match ever, came roaring back and almost took the second set tiebreaker, but lost 1-6.
The team match score was 4-4. That left Grace who had dropped the first set, but was up the second. The match was now an hour and a half long. The players agreed to a third set under the lights. Grace Meyer served tough, returned consistently and came in for winning volleys. The color gone from the sky and her opponent, Grace won the third set 6-4, giving Brookdale its second win and best team match this year.
