Lincroft, NJ - It was a joyous win on an ugly, rainy day for the Brookdale women's soccer team who defeated the RCSJ-Gloucester Roadrunners in their final regular season game, 3-1.
The Blues scored their first two goals within 10 minutes of each other in the first half. Freshman defender, Jordyn Gavini, secured her second goal of the season at 35:00 as she received a touch pass from freshman midfielder, Hailey Funkhouser. The second goal was produced from sophomore midfielders Grace Broderick to Catherine Delia at minute 44:00.The second half brought the Blues their third and final goal from Hailey Funkouser, her 6th this season, with the help of an assist from freshman midfielder, Marissa Pane.
Throughout the game, SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee), and the Athletics Department, advocated for Ovarian Cancer Awareness with informational material and a refreshment area for donations to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance. The men's and women's soccer teams also helped spread the word by wearing teal colored t-shirts which represents the official color of ovarian cancer during warm-ups with the slogan, Brookdale Kicks For Cancer.
Brookdale finishes their regular season with a 7-3-1 overall record with a 6-0-1 in Region 19 record. The team awaits post season standings and schedules.
