Brookdale women's soccer team defeated Bergen Community College by a score of 10-0 on Sunday to win the Region XIX Tournament. The victory raised the team's record to 15-1 overall and 11-0 in Region play.
The team was led by Lauren Bowler (Little Silver, NJ) and Chelsea James (Howell, NJ) who were named Defensive and Offensive MVPs of the tournament, respectively. James scored three of the team's ten goals in the final match, and also assisted on Amanda Anastasia's (Middletown, NJ) goal.
Simone McEnough (Neptune, NJ) posted two assists, the first going to Caroline Duerr (Brielle, NJ) and the second to Alexa Masino. Masino (Howell, NJ) had four goals on the day; including two that came nearly one minute apart to give Brookdale an early 2-0 lead.
The last goal of the game came in the 83rd minute from Keara Homan (Manasquan, NJ) and was assisted by Meghan Begley (Middletown, NJ). Homan, Brooke Tartis (Neptune, NJ), and Devon Carney (South Amboy, NJ) each had one assist in the team's championship victory.
The Jersey Blues now advance to the NJCAA Division III National Tournament, which will begin on November 7th. The team will take on SUNY-Delhi at 5:30pm on the campus of Tompkins Cortland Community College.
