Late Rally For Brookdale Women Not Enough To Defeat Rowan College At Gloucester County
Lincroft, NJ - The Jersey Blues women had difficulty producing on offense and defending outside shots against the Roadrunners in a tough key Garden State Athletic Conference loss Tuesday night. The Roadrunners Sophomore guard, Alyvia Essex, hit for 20 of her 29 points in the first half, pushing RCGC to a 44-22 half time lead.

The Roadrunners Sophomore guard, Alyvia Essex, hit for 20 of her 29 points in the first half, pushing RCGC to a 44-22 half time lead.
Brookdale had been down as much as 26 points, but the fourth quarter proved to be a whole new game when the Blues pushed their defensive game forcing turnovers, and then scoring 28 points in 10 minutes. Alexa Vreeland's (Neptune High School) three-pointer, followed by her drive to the basket on the next possesion, cut the lead down to 10 points with about five minutes left in the game. With 1:58 on the clock, Che'Kasha Andrews (Long Branch), hit a long three point shot to trim the score to 79-72, and then followed with another three-pointer, tightening the deficit, 79-75. The Blues were brought to the foul line with seconds left, but fell short with an 80-75 final.
Andrews, who was covered tightly, scored 20 of her 30 points in the fourth quarter, and Brianna Bowen (Neptune High School), added 24 points respectively. Vreeland's timely baskets in the fourth quarter added to her 10 point total for Brookdale.
The Jersey Blues are 11-9 overall, and 10-3 in the conference, and will host the Atlantic Cape Community College Buccaneers on Tuesday, January 30th, @ 5pm.
