Softball Advances to Region XIX Title Game with Wins over Ocean and Gloucester

In the first game against fourth-seeded Ocean, the Blues broke open a one-one tie with a three-run fourth inning. Thirdbaseman Erin Lockwood ripped a two-run double and Sara Vocisano scored Lockwood wit a single up the middle. DP Courtney Semkeyc accounted for the other score with an RBI double in the third inning.
Krystal Pearson earned the win with one earned run and five strikeouts in six innings of work. Striking out two in the seventh, Samantha Hosey picked up the save.
To advance to the Championship game, Brookdale defeated second-seeded Gloucester, 1-0 in the winner's bracket. Hosey completed the seven frame shutout, scattering three hits.
For the only score of the game, Semkeyc batted in Keara Homan, who reached on a fielders choice, in the first inning. Gloucester threatened in the fifth inning with bases loaded and one out, but Hosey drew two ground balls from the fifth and sixth batters to end the inning.
The Jersey Blues will now face the winner of Northampton/Gloucester tomorrow at 1:00 pm.
