Lincroft, NJ - It was back-to-back action for the Jersey Blues men's soccer team who got their first win of the season against the Bergen Community College Bulldogs, 3-0, and a hat trick from freshman forward, Jairo Chira.
Brookdale started the game off with more purpose and energy than the day prior which paid off in the 23rd minute. Sophomore midfielder, Sandro Louis, played a chipped ball over the back line for Jairo Chira to run on the ball then tuck it in the corner. It was Chira's first goal of the season, giving Brookdale the 1-0 lead. Three minutes later, Chira would add his 2nd goal of the day to give the Blues a 2-0 halftime lead.
At the start of the 2nd half, the Bulldogs came out barking, putting pressure on Brookdale, and making the first 15 minutes of the half a bit unnerving for the Blues. In the 60th minute, the Blues were able to hit Bergen on a counter with Chira putting the game to bed, getting his hat trick for the 3-0 Brookdale win.
"It's nice to get back on the field the day after a tough loss. It helps the men forget about the loss and focus on the task at hand. We have a talented young team, and it's nice to get the first win out of the way," said Brookdale Coach Jose Bastidas.
Brookdale is 1-1 going into their next game on the road against the Berkeley College Knights on Wednesday, September 6th, at 3:30pm.
