Rockville, MD - The Blues bonded over a weekend stay in Maryland while prepring for two tough games beginning with the top DI Montgomery College Raptors. The Jersey Blues men unfortunately lost, 4-2, in the match-up.
The game got off to a slow start until the Blues had their first chance on goal when freshman midfielder, Kristopher Maza, hit a glancing header that was just wide. Following that chance, the Raptors put relentless pressure on the Blues and in the 30th minute, Montgomery was successful at finding Brookdale's open goal. Brookdale answered with a perfect counter contrived by the Brookdale defense hitting freshman forward, Kaan Pehlivan. Pehlivan committed two Raptor defenders, then cut back, and slid a perfect through-ball in a greatly timed run by sophomore forward, Augusto Bomtempo. Bomtempo then tucked the ball home for his 5th goal in three games.
In the 2nd half, the ball was mostly in Montgomery's possession, but there were no created chances for goals on either side. The Blues attempted their best and final chance in the 80th minute when sophomore forward, Liam Stewart, sprung free on a breakaway only to be stoned by Montgomery's keeper who made a great save. The save was crucial for the Raptors as they broke down Brookdale's left side with an overload, and managed to plunge the game winner in the 85th minute.
Brookdale is currently 1-2 and will play the CCBC Catonsville Cardinals on Sunday, September 11th, at 2:00pm.
