Branchburg Twp., NJ - The Jersey Blues men's soccer team took a win from the Golden Lions of Raritan Valley Community College, adding another win for their current 7-4-1 overall record.
The Blues kicked off the game with a usual run of possesion in the first half, but changed their tactic as the Golden Lions took advantage and scored the first goal. Brookdale started to play more direct and within five minutes of the change, sophomore midfielder, Gabriel Viera, found sprinting sophomore forward, Dane Calhoun. Calhoun faked a shot with his right foot then cut to his left as he struck the ball into the lower corner of the goal.
Brookdale secured the game at 76:40 on the clock when freshman midfielder, Michael Deleonardis, stood over the top of a free kick. Deleonardis served a perfectly weighted ball, beat the first defender, then left enough space for freshman defender, Noah Mendez, to run-on and flick the ball with his head into the corner for the win.
Brookdale will host the Mighty Oaks of Salem Community College on Thursday, October 14, at 3:30pm.
