Pemberton, NJ- The Jersey Blues men's soccer team fell to the division I Barons of Rowan College at Burlington County, 3-1.
While Brookdale played an impressive possession match-up, the Barons struck first on a breakaway in the 8th minute. Sophomore forward Shawn Behrend and sophomore midfielder Patrick Gallagher headed two shots that were stifled by RCBC's netminder. In the 38th, the Barons added their second goal off a quick restart leading to a 35 yard bomb, nicking the crossbar and barely beating the effort of sophomore goalkeeper Matthew Lionette.
In the second half, the Blues came out on fire, scoring in the 60th minute. After winning a solid tackle, sophomore midfielder Nicholas Bilotti threaded a perfect pass between defenders, finding freshman forward Kirk Jones, who scored with a one touch liner to the right of the keeper. The team kept up the second half pressure but succumbed to a penalty kick in the 91st minute. Lionette finished the day with five saves with his teammates getting off eight shots on goal.
The team will next travel to Northampton Community College to face the Spartans on Saturday, September 7th for a 12pm kick-off.
