Lincroft, NJ - Connor Hansen credits his time in the classroom at Brookdale and on the soccer field with instilling a sense of perseverance and drive that has served him well as he begins his junior year at Stockton University. He served as captain of the men's soccer team and earned many honors, including Scholar All-American in his final season.
Hansen, a Howell, NJ resident, earned the first scholarship under the new partnership agreement announced earlier this year between Brookdale and Stockton. The $2,000 award will enable him to continue his studies in criminal justice with a goal toward working for Homeland Security.
"Brookdale was a great experience and the various criminal justice courses helped me explore a wide range of areas and career options," said Hansen.
He said participating in men's soccer was more than just being part of a team but more like a supportive family driving one another to succeed. He formed close bonds with many of his teammates and coaches, especially Coach Brennen Fitzsimmons.
Hansen said he was looking to transfer to a four-year institution to complete his degree. His advisor, Suzanne Rauso told him about the program at Stockton, the new partnership and scholarship opportunities.
"I'm grateful for her guidance and in helping me with the transition," said Hansen. "I can't thank her enough, and she's the best!"
He is enjoying his classes at Stockton and looking forward to playing with a new set of teammates on the soccer field in the spring.
"I am very grateful to those who helped me and proud of my accomplishments at Brookdale academically and athletically and of the many the relationships I made along the way," said Hansen. "I'll cherish them for a lifetime."
