The first half vibe was basket for basket with Brookdale managing to pull ahead by four at the half. Not until mid second half did the Jersey Blues surge ahead with a 20 point run, and then held on for their tournament life as the final foul shots closed the game. The Blues scoring leader, sophomore point guard, Kevin Mateo, asserted his presence with a double-double of 26 points and 10 assists. Sophomore forward, Niles Halliburton, came through again in the tournament with 19 clutch points, and gritty freshman forward, Darnell Askew, put in 16 points. Sophomore forward, Josiah Basket, showed off his ball handling skills by drawing fouls and hitting spot-on jumpers to add 14 points. Freshman guard, Nick Williams, was instrumental driving, drawing fouls, shooting, and pulling rebounds with his 12 point, 12 rebound double-double.
The Jersey Blues stand at 26-3, and will head to the NJCAA North Atlantic District Finals to play the #1 seed, Northampton Community College Spartans, in Bethlehem, PA, on Saturday, March 4th, 3:00pm.
